Welcome to the Website of the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers

This page will be updated on a daily basis, to provide a convenient news service to scarce & rare birds found within the County Nottinghamshire.

The Sightings page and @Nottsbirders Twitter feed are intended to alert birders to scarcer species that they might be interested in seeing within the County.

Records of more common species are still very important, but should preferably be submitted to the county Recorder Andy Hall. These records will then be added to the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers data-base, to be included in the monthly Newsletter and Annual Reports.

None of these reports have been verified or checked by the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers' Records Committee.

Records of certain species will not appear here during the breeding season - but please send in your reports regardless.

Barton in Fabis - 15+Yellow Wagtail [feeding under cattle on riverside fields], Dunlin and 6 Little Ringed Plover [Cottages Flash, 19:00 - 21:00].

Besthorpe NWT - Great White Egret [ Juv, on the eastern side of Mons Pool, 15:44 at least], Mediterranean Gull [Juv, flew South through Mons Pool at 14:00] and Wood Sandpiper [still on Mons Pool, late morning].

Langford Lowfields RSPB - Great White Egret [ Juv, Silt Lagoon 5, viewed from public footpath early afternoon].

Holme Pierrepont - Wood Sandpiper [still on Blotts Pit, 13:00 at least] Also 15 Black-tailed Godwit [circled Blotts then flew south/east, 11:35].

Lound [Idle Valley Nature Reserve] - 3 Black tailed Godwit and 9 Little Egret [Chainbridge, 08:30].

Skegby Trail - 3 Yellowhammer, 50 Lapwing, and 3 Mandarin Duck.

Friday 29th July

Holme Pierrepont - Wood Sandpiper [flew from A52 Pit towards Blotts Pit 17:40].

Lound [Idle Valley Nature Reserve] - Rose-ringed Parakeet [Chainbridge Lane on wires opposite Charcon works 17:30, then flew towards horse paddocks], 14 Green sandpiper, 10 little Egret, 8 Yellow-legged Gull Neatholme Fen], 3 Hobby, juv Marsh harrier [Tiln North].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - 8 Black-tailed Godwit [flying around the reserve, early evening]. Also 2 Black-tailed Godwit [Clifton Pit, 13:40] and Green Sandpiper [Beeston Marsh].

Kilvington Lakes - 9 Little Egret, Red Kite, 2 Common Sandpiper and 2 Yellow-legged Gull.

Thursday 28th July

Barton in Fabis - Dunlin, Green Sandpiper, 7 Little Ringed Plover [all Juv's], Common Redshank, 6+Common Snipe, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Juv Little Egrets and singing Little Owl [19:15 - 21:00].

Besthorpe NWT - Wood Sandpiper [present to late evening at least], 2 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Avocet [adult and 2 Juveniles], 4 Curlew, 5 Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, 2 Dunlin, 17 Lapwing, Little Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, 8 Little Egret, Common Tern, Turtle Dove, 8 Swift and 3 Foxes [all Mons Pool, this morning].

Thrumpton/Ratcliffe on Soar - Marsh Harrier [worn adult, flew towards the Power Station from Long Eaton GP's, early evening].

Gonalston - 4 Spotted Flycatcher [Adult and 3 juveniles, 16:00].

Barton in Fabis - 4 Juv Little Ringed Plover, 3 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, Common Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher and 6 Little Egret [Cottages Flash, 13:30].

Netherfield Lagoons - 3 Raven [Moulting adult and 2 presumed juveniles, heading north near the river this morning]

Attenborough Nature Reserve - 3 Green Sandpiper [Beeston Marsh], 2 Green Sandpiper and Little Ringed Plover [Works Pond] and c20 plus Little Egrets throughout the reserve.

Lowdham - Dipper [Watched at close range perched bobbing up and down on garage roof near the Magna Carta pub on the A612 Southwell Road/Station Road Junction 09:15. It then flew off up the Cocker Beck].

Barton in Fabis - Green Sandpiper Common Snipe and 2 Grey Partridge [A453 Balancing Pond 20:40].

Gedling Country Park - 3 Peregrine [adult and 2 Juv's over the Solar Farm, 06:30].

Friday 22nd July

Gotham - Red Kite [throgh towards Clifton, 20:51].

Hoveringham - Common Scoter [drk, on the Sailing Lake 09:00 to 15:00 at least]. Also Marsh Harrier [creamed crown, from 14:00 for 30 minutes then flew off low south].

Idle Washlands – 5 Wigeon, 20 Little Egret, 2 Ruff, and Green Sandpiper.

Kilvington Lakes - Red Kite, Black Tern [through], Ringed Plover, 3 Common Sandpiper and 3 Yellow-legged Gull.

Cottam - Northern Wheatear [Juvenile, along the Trent near Cottam this afternoon].

Sherwood Forest NNR - 2 Spotted Flycatcher [15:30].

Holme Pierrepont - 5 Black-tailed Godwit and Green Sandpiper [Blotts Pit, this evening].
