The Broxtowe Barn Owl Project

The Broxtowe Barn Owl Project is a scheme set up in January 2003 to protect and enhance the population of barn owls within the borough of Broxtowe. Based on the very successful Rushcliffe Barn Owl Project model, it aims to encourage local volunteers to set up their own self-sustaining group in order to raise awareness of the importance of the barn owl as a species of conservation concern both locally and nationally.

BTO Bird Atlas 2007-2011: Bird of the Day.

Every day the BTO produce a map for a randomly selected species, showing where that species has been found so far by Atlas fieldworkers.

Start a Big Birding Year

It's not too late to start a Bigby!

A what?… A birding Big Year, but done without the aid of transport.

The idea was first floated in North America by Richard Gregson (another Brit in Canada) after comments regarding how green is year listing. Now he has 160 people from around the World signed up to do their own Bigby. Any one of any level can do it, its non-competitive and its interesting to drop into the website to see how other Bigbys are going around the World. Use the link above, be the first Nottinghamshire Bigby on the map.

The Phenology Web Site

Phenology is the study of the times of recurring natural phenomena especially in relation to climate change. It is recording when you heard the first cuckoo or saw the blackthorn blossom. This can then be compared with other records.

Forums & News Groups

There are currently two Yahoo groups relevent to Nottinghamshire birdwatchers. They are Nottsbirdnews and Nottsbirdwatcher.

The Nottsbirdnews Group is a forum for anyone in Nottinghamshire with an interest in birds, to discuss news and views, on all bird sightings and bird related subjects around the County.

The Nottsbirdwatcher Group can be used to put out club notices, spread rumours etc. This is a group for Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers members only.
