Bestwood Country Park Wardens

Nottinghamshire County Council is planning to cut out the Park Ranger service completely across the County, replacing it with a non-resident warden service with fewer members and costing between £8k - £10k each less.

The ‘Friends of Bestwood Park’ feel that this would be a devastating loss to Bestwood Country Park, and would waste all the good work that has been done by its management in recent years to make the park a safe place for users and for wildlife, including its birds.

The park is a regular local birding patch for many and the ‘Friends’ group is running a campaign targeting local councillors and MPs. We've already had some good coverage in the Nottingham Evening Post and the Hucknall Despatch.

Petition

‘Friends of Bestwood Park’ will be at Bestwood Lodge car park on Sunday 16th January (weather permitting) from 2pm till 4pm. Please feel free to come along and sign our petition.

They will also be collecting any signed petitions between Monday and Wednesday next week, 17th-19th January 2011. Please email Gill Costello or phone (0115 955 5615 or 07989 182142) - Gill can arrange to collect any petitions.

There is now also a page on Facebook called Save Bestwood Country Park, with a link to the online petition, so people can sign up online.

Please feel free to write your local County Councillor to protest at the complete cut of ranger presence on the Park, and ask for a smaller but ranger-led presence there.

You can also email your views to bestwoodcountrypark@hotmail.co.uk.
